Craters

In some locations the sequence of impacts can be seen due to the overlapping of craters. However this still does not give us any idea of the age of the craters only the likely sequence of impacts. We can't tell if the process happened quickly in one meteor storm or over a much longer period. Only if two or more craters overlap is it possible to see the order in which they hit the Moon. In the picture below its not possible to tell in which order all the craters in the larger crater were made, only that they all happened after the large impact as they do not overlap with each other, they only sit on top of the large crater.

Note that only the craters that overlap can be ordered.

Can you see an order in which these craters might have been formed? Roll over the image with the mouse to find out.
