Virgo: the Virgin

Virgo is often shown holding a palm branch and an ear of wheat. The origin of the constellation name Virgo probably stems from the time when the Sun was in the constellation Virgo during the spring equinox, the time of the Egyptian harvest.

The constellation Virgo disappears below the horizon during the winter months and so is often associated with birth and new life as it is prominent in the evening sky of spring
