Gain access to the NASA database on the INTERNET (you type in http://www.yahoo.com/Science/Space followed by return and when it appears on the screen, click on NASA) to find many articles on topics within the NATIONAL CURRICULUM and of interest to astronomers Facts about the planets and other astronomical data are available from http://www.ex.ac.uk/public_html/nineplanets/nineplanets.html.

1 - Globular clusters.
2 - Galaxy formation.
3 - Stars (supernovae, pulsars, black holes, red giants, white dwarfs, quasars, ...).
4 - Pictures of galaxies.

Pupils could find information and work on the following projects:-

1 - Article on "The Birth of Stars".
2 - Make a "Stars and Galaxies" poster.
3 - Article on "The Expanding/Age of the Universe".
4 - Hunt for a supernova by requesting a series of images of an old galaxy. Write it up as a scientific paper.
5 - Article on "Life on a Planet in a Binary Star System", (approximately half of all stars are, in fact, binary or multiple star systems).
6 - Draw an artists impression of the views of different. galaxies/globular clusters/nebulae from a nearby planet.
7 - Write an article on "Gravity in the Universe".
8 - The ages of the stars in a cluster ; obtain images through different filters. Write up as a scientific paper.
